Learn 4 techniques to seal the deal like a pro.
Corners are one of the most common problem areas for installers and also one of the most telling signs of skill. A clean corner signals pro-level precision, while wrinkles indicate that improvements need to be made. That’s why this week we’re focusing on corner techniques. Whether you're wrapping a table or a curvy fender, nailing the corner means longer durability, higher quality, and respect from other installers. Here are some tips and video links that will help you!
Years ago, Tadashi showed us a battery-powered tool in Japan for perfect corners—it was great, but hard to find outside of Japan. The good news? You can achieve the same result with the Yellotools Lacy Tip and a heat gun which are available on our Amazon store and at select distributors worldwide. To use this method, simply heat the Teflon-coated edge until it’s hot, then press it around the corner. The shape heat help smooth out wrinkles and activate the adheisve. It’s simple and extremely effective for color change, PPF, interior and commercial style corners. Justin uses this combo in nearly every video, so watch closely to master the technique.
Dry apply PPF is growing fast, but PU films don’t behave like PVC—especially around corners. While a heat gun works well for PVC in terms of shrinking the film to the corner, it won’t relax PU enough to get the same results. That is because PU doesn’t have the memory effect like PVC. To adapt, TWI recommends using a butane torch in short, controlled bursts. The flame softens the corner just right so it lays flat with no tension. If you’ve never used a butane torch on corners before, be sure to practice with scrap first. Find the right balance between softening the film but not overheating it. Once you get the rhythm then go live with the main panel and enjoy perfect corners.
Corners come in all shapes and sizes—just like the films you work with. At TWI, we created 4 core corner techniques to give you flexibility and confidence.
Cold Pre-Stretch
3D
Massage
Wrap Matrix
These methods adapt to flexible or stiff films, simple or complex shapes, and hard-to-reach spots. Mastering all four will cut your install time and elevate your finish. The more adaptable you are, the more professional your work becomes.
See these techniques in action with our hand-picked videos—each one packed with pro tips, visual demos, and corner secrets you won’t want to miss.
