Maintenance

For some reason, one aspect that clients seem to assume is that a wrap has a magic force field and it never has to be maintained.  This can lead to them not maintaining the wrap properly which can lead to frustration on their part and friction with you when they complain about it not holding up the way they expected.  One way we like to educate our members and clients on maintenance is to think of wraps like clothes.  If you buy a set of clothes, wear it all the time and never wash it, well, I think we get (or smell) the picture.  In the same vein, when washing clothes, each fabric and color requires certain detergents and protocols.   Getting this wrong can lead to white clothes becoming pink or wool sweaters going from a large to a small.  Once a client gets this analogy in regards to wraps they are much more open to maintenance and actually doing it on a regular basis which is a win-win.

Ceramic coatings

Years ago when I was doing a segment with Adam Cote from Ceramic Pro on The Wrap Institute I came up with the analogy that ceramic coatings are like suntan lotion for wraps.  Adam smiled so I knew I was on to something.  It’s an effective analogy as it helps customers understand the benefits of a ceramic coating, the importance of choosing the right one and regular reapplications.  When you go to the beach its important to put suntan lotion on right away then reapply it throughout the day.  In addition, you have to use the right suntan lotion.  If you choose the wrong SPF or go for a swim and it washes off you get burned.  Well, the same thing with ceramic coatings.  It’s best to apply to a fresh wrap and reapply it on a regular basis.  Additionally, not all ceramic coatings are created equal so do your research.  At TWI, we have found the best performing and longest lasting based on lab results to be Diamond Protect Wrap for PPF and Vinyl.

Wrap spa

One video I made for the TWI library years ago that is very much relevant today is creating a wrap spa protocol for your clients.  When they get a wrap, offer them a package deal where they come back to the shop every month or two months to get their wrap freshened up.  A deep clean with Absolute Rinseless Wash and a coat of Triple S on top of the wrap, windows and interior.  The more these products are used on a regular basis, the easier the process gets and the cleaner the wraps stay.  What I love about it is that it’s a win-win.  It keeps the wrap looking great and the client is coming back to the shop for a good reason which builds solid client relationships.
