Why Stress Over Stretch?
Pyramids Make It Smooth Sailing in 3D.
If you’ve ever wrapped a vehicle, you know one thing: the corners tell all. Clean corners that hold up perfectly are the sign of a pro level install. Sloppy ones? The ones that have wrinkles or lifting are a tell tale sign of a wrap that isn’t at the level it should be at. That’s why understanding how to read wrinkles and manage stretch is crucial. For years, we taught the triangle method—and it works. But now, there's a better, more effortless way to wrap 3D shapes: pyramids.
To be clear, we’re not ditching triangles. They’re still excellent for flat installs like walls, windows, and floors. Triangles use the 2D shape of the film to stretch into curves, and they work—fast. The catch? They often demand serious pulling and energy to “glass” the material. That’s where pyramids come in. They reduce the effort, shift the stretch, and let the film naturally form deeper into complex shapes.
Learning to see pyramids is like learning to ride a bike—once you get it, you never go back. While triangle wrinkles are obvious, pyramid wrinkles can look like long, straight lines at first. The trick is seeing the profile of the shape. The excess film in the pyramid lets you spread material evenly, guiding it to flat areas instead of letting tension build at the edges. Once you recognize this, your wrap game changes forever.
The magic happens when you combine pyramids with Zero Stretch. On complex 3D shapes like bumpers, one installer gently pulls while the other Zero Stretches. The result? Dozens of relaxed pyramids that fall into place with almost no effort. Just watch the Fedrigoni Ri-Cast hood demo—Justin simply pulled to the corner, relaxed the film, and let the material glide to the edge. It’s simple, efficient, and wildly satisfying.
We’ve got 4 must-watch videos that show pyramids in real-time, on real cars, in real-world installs. Whether you're just learning or looking to level up, these are gold.
