"Level Up Your PPF Skills! Bulk vs. Templates – Which Method Will You Choose?"

February 5 - December 1, 2025

news

When it comes to PPF installations, many car wrappers face a familiar challenge: how to balance speed, quality, and safety. It’s easy to think that rushing through a job can save time, but in reality, mistakes can damage the vehicle or lead to costly redos. Finding the right method that boosts both efficiency and safety is key. By investing in the proper tools and techniques, wrappers can not only speed up their process but also ensure high-quality results, minimizing risks along the way.

Mix and Match

We often get asked, “What is the best way to install PPF - templates or bulk?” To which we say, “Both.” At first, it may sound like we aren’t taking the question seriously, but we are. For most full-coverage PPF installations, a combination of templates and bulk offers the perfect balance. Certain sections like mirrors and bumpers can be easier with bulk, while sections like the hood or doors may work better with templates. Each installer is different, but being open to mixing the two methods often leads to the best results.

Black and White Breakdown

At The Wrap Institute, we encourage a method called "doing the black and white," which involves analyzing the numbers and data to optimize your workflow. When choosing between templates or bulk, it’s essential to assess the time and effort for each stage—prep, install, and post-install. For example, templates may take longer to prepare but save time during installation. Meanwhile, some installers are simply faster with bulk. Tracking your performance in all areas will help you discover what truly works best for you.

Peel Board Protocol

Peel boards are another critical element in PPF installation, with options that suit different preferences and workflows. Mounted boards keep the vehicle nearby to minimize walking, while mobile boards should have a drain system to avoid messes on the floor. If you prefer tables, ensure they’re large enough and mobile for a smooth workflow. Whether you do the “California roll” or other techniques, always make it a habit to clean the peel board or table before laying down a panel for pristine results.
